The 08 Hitlist and 09 Throwdown mix

The hit list of 2008

Justice
Awesome live shows, a killer remix for MGMT and a documentary more about guns that music? Strange (In a good way)

Sinden
Prolific year for live sets and remixes. V festival 2008 and ‘Afro Jacker’ dropping being a personal highlight.

Herve
Any genre, any alias - just keep the dance floor the rocking. ‘All the joys under the sun, wrapped up into one’ Catchy like the flu.

Soulwax
The Belgium duo continued to impress with remixes for dance music royalty the Chemical Brothers and Hot Chip. Analogue synths have never sounded better.

A-Trak
A-Trak lost the ‘Kanye West tour DJ’ tag in 2008 and stood out in his own right. MSTRKFT’s ‘Bounce’ remix becoming a push music favourite.

Trevor Loveys
Dubs or full vocal production. Underground house with a classic sound. We like.

Fake blood
Dj Touché cuts, pastes and makes artists name check Fake Blood with some of the best club tracks of the year.

Crookers
The overworked Italians continued to deliver the bassline, swinging drums and synth formula with their Kid Cudi refix signed by Ministry in the process.

Erol Alkan
Erol Produced the Mystery Jet’s and Late of the Pier albums and provided the elastic band of house music that was his remix of ZZT’s The Worm.

Chase and Status
As drum and bass hit the commercial airwaves, Chase and Status kept it underground delivering anthem after anthem. If ‘Take me away’ is this house DJ’s favorite track of the year then Chase and Status are doing something right.

The 09 throwdown mix to kick start the New Year

11 tracks crowbarred into 35 minutes of mixing and scratching.

le Sac and Pip Library Tour

This sounds like quite a bizarre concept, mr dan le sac and mr scroobius pip set up there stuff in the middle of a library invite a few people down and play a gig? You wouldn’t be the only one to think they were nutters for doing so; but that is the point, they are nutters, between the surroundings, the giant beard sprouted by pip and le sac pausing halfway through the gig to read the audience a passage from a steamy romance novel there’s not much room for any type of “normality” whatever that happens to be.

in the library

so we showed up at grays library not really knowing what to expect, there was quite a broad spectrum of people who had shown up, even a couple of my teachers from secondary school were there. On questioning there motives for coming down they replied “well I saw it was in the library and just got curious” which basically summed up why I was there, I was just too damn curious not to come down, and seeming I only live 5 minutes drive from grays library I had no excuse.

le sac and pip in the library

This actually was a great show, starting off with le sac playing a live mash up of the theme to the antiques road show going into the ‘beat that my heart skipped’ and breaking out all their album favorites such as ‘fixed’, ‘letter from god to man’, ‘Tommy C’ then playing a cover version of ‘push the button’ by the sugarbabes then into crowd favorite ‘thou shalt always kill’.

heres another little bonus for you all.

sac pip and de la soul

le sac vs pip - thou shalt always kill (De la soul edit) is coming out early next year, you can hear this new track on their myspace page - XFM have had it as their record of the week, trust me its great

Episode 37 - let us RAVE

So did you hear? the prodigy have been back in the studio rustling up some new skool tracks with there very old skool style. it seems to me from listening to there latest musical gift to us that they have gone back to the style that created the classic albums like ‘Fat of the Land’ and re-lit the love of the rave that lies within me.

So this weeks mix has been a bit of a dedication to them - I’ve played there new track in there along with some other new tracks with links back to the old skool so come and have a little listen.

Heres the tracklist:

A Thing For Me (Sinden rmx) - Metronomy,
Jack Got Jacked (Jackbeats rmx) - AC Slater,
Invaders Must Die - Prodigy,
Hardcore Girls (JC rmx) - The Count and Sinden,
Dominator (Herve rmx) - Human Resource,
Archangel (Boy 8-Bit rmx) - Burial,

Kissy in Paris

I was out and about the other night and heard a great little story on radio one about the new parisian sound, so I thought it only right to share it with you all.

Kissy Sell Out took a little excursion to paris for radio one and met a few of the french legends that have shaped the french sound and some of the new pioneers and record labels producing some of the best dance music on the planet.

Its defiantly worth listen even if its just for the mix.

we love paris
